Luxury Hotel for Atlanta Jazz Festival

One of the absolute highlights of Atlanta’s musical calendar (and a fixture of the city since the late 1970s) is just around the corner, and it’s time to reserve your Luxury Collection guest room or suite at The Whitley for the occasion.

The Atlanta Jazz Festival is once again putting on a grand celebration of one of America’s greatest cultural creations this Memorial Day weekend at Piedmont Park, only a few miles away from our spectacular hotel in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood. As always, it’ll be a musical fanfare of the highest quality, so come join us for stylish accommodations near the proceedings!

An Illustrious History

In 1978, then-Mayor Maynard Jackson launched the first Atlanta Jazz Festival by noting, “Atlanta, with its growing reputation as an international center of the arts and education, has both the opportunity and the responsibility to promote an art form whose roots are indigenous to the South.” The event has certainly done its part, over the decades solidifying its reputation as one of America’s great jazz festivals. Everyone from Nina Simone, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis to Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock have taken the stage here.

The 2018 Atlanta Jazz Festival

This year’s festival culminates in Piedmont Park concerts on Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th, with arts-and-crafts vendors and food purveyors part of the soiree.

On Saturday, headliners include the Lina May Han Oh Quintet on the Next Gen Stage (6:30 PM), Jazzmeia Horn on the Contemporary Stage (7:30 PM), and the Tia Fuller Quartet and Dianne Reeves closing out the superb performances on the Legends Stage (at 7 and 9 PM, respectively). The day’s music concludes with a Late Night Jazz Jam at Park Tavern courtesy of the Royal Krunk Jazz Orkestra.

On Sunday, meanwhile, Matthew Whitaker headlines the Next Gen Stage (6:30 PM), Cory Henry and The Funk Apostles the Contemporary Stage (7:30 PM), and The Bad Plus followed by John Baptiste With the Dap Kings on the Legends Stage (7 and 9 PM).

The Memorial Day Weekend shows at Piedmont Park are only the climax of the Atlanta Jazz Festival’s 31 Days of Jazz, which sees daily jazz performances and associated events the entire month of May at venues across Atlanta. These include Jazz in the Sky concerts at Colony Square on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 PM; Jazz in the Airport Atrium at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport May 14th through 18th and May 21st through 25th; and Jazz Under The Stars at the Lee Street Park & Amphitheatre on May 12th starting at 7 PM.
