Luxury Hotel for the National Black Arts Festival

One of Atlanta’s most revered and multifaceted cultural happenings is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary this fall, and your Luxury Collection accommodations here at The Whitley in Buckhead provide convenient access to the occasion!

Originally established by the Fulton County Arts Council, the National Black Arts Festival kicked off back in 1988 and has attracted an incredible roster of luminaries over the years: from Maya Angelou to Harry Belafonte, from Gladys Knight to Youssou N’Dour, from Katherine Dunham to Spike Lee. Ten years ago, Congress formally recognized the festival for the contributions it continues to make to the “cultural fabric of greater Atlanta and all of America.”

The festival, which incorporates visual art of all kinds as well as performance art, is always inspiring, stimulating, and thought-provoking, and well worth a trip to Atlanta—and a stay at The Whitley—for.

The 2018 National Black Arts Festival

The programs for this year’s National Black Arts Festival haven’t all yet been released, but plenty of exciting events are already on the calendar. They include Friday Jazz at the High Museum of Art on Friday, September 21st, which’ll feature everything from bebop to swing to the accompaniment of drinks and, of course, the fine museum galleries.

At 4 PM on Saturday, September 29th, the festival presents its own version of the New Orleans parade tradition with its Second Line on the Beltline, a “Block Party in Motion” sure to serve as a highlight of the NBAF’s 30th anniversary!

That occasion will also be celebrated between September 22nd and October 15th at the Chastain Arts Center via the 30 Years of NBAF: Experience the Journey exhibit, reviewing the festival’s prestigious history with photos, film, art, and more.

More art awaits at the Without Stopping NBAF fine art exhibition at the Westside Cultural Arts Center, featuring both local and national artists and on display from September 4th through September 24th. In the midst of that run, the weekend of September 15th and 16thwill see lively reception events including artist talks, art demos, pop-up studios, and more.
