Top Outdoor Activities In and Around Fort Worth

Fort Worth may be nestled within one of the largest and most happening metropolitan areas in the U.S., but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t offer its visitors amazing access to outdoor recreation and R&R. A home base with us here at The Crescent Fort Worth puts a remarkably varied lineup of fresh-air destinations and activities at your fingertips.

Here’s just a sampler pack of outdoor activities you can enjoy as an honored guest of ours!

Enjoy the Trinity River & its Trail System

Fort Worth offers better than 100 miles of paved, interconnected multiuse paths spanning more than 30 distinct neighborhoods and 21 designated parks via the Trinity Trails. It’s easy to hop on the trail system from your guest room or suite at The Crescent Fort Worth, whether you feel like jogging, cycling, or just a leisurely mosey.

And besides admiring the Trinity from its banks, you can also get out on the river by renting a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard—just about as good as it gets on a summer’s day in Fort Worth!

Enjoy the Prairies—and Bison!—of Tandy Hills

A 200-plus-acre parkland mosaic anchored by the Tandy Hills and Stratford Park natural areas, the Tandy Hills include beautiful and precious remnants of the rolling limestone Fort Worth Prairie just a few miles outside of Downtown Fort Worth.

Marvel at wildflower gardens and hilltop vistas of the Fort Worth skyline, and enjoy thrilling looks at the heftiest native mammal of North Texas: the American bison, a herd of which here has been delighting parkgoers for decades.

Stroll the Fort Worth Botanic Garden

A neighbor of The Crescent here in the Fort Worth Cultural District, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden is one of the finest of its kind in the country (and the most venerable botanical garden in the Lone Star State).

Here you’ll find almost two dozen distinct gardens, including the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, and the Four Seasons Garden, plus a wealth of educational programs and special events.

Visit the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge

An outstanding city-owned conservation and recreation area, the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge protects a fine spectrum of native habitats, including oak mottes, prairieland, and bottomland woods.

Its 3,621 acres include more than 20 miles of hiking trails delivering serene immersion in these ecological realms, with the opportunity to find endemic Fort Worth Prairie plant species such as the pale yucca that are found nowhere else on Earth.

Enjoy Urban Greenspaces on a Crescent Fort Worth Getaway

Get out and about along the Fort Worth area’s bike paths, paddling routes, and hiking trails, then return to the warm embrace of The Crescent and its preeminent Cultural District hospitality. Refuel at one of our on-site wining and dining establishments, and soothe sore muscles with a spa session at the Canyon Ranch Wellness Club at The Crescent.
